Preimplantation diagnosis
Published on 22 January 2025
In France, preimplantation diagnosis (PGD) is carried out exclusively in five centers authorized by the Agence de la biomédecine. Each year, the medical and scientific report presents a detailed overview of this activity, from requests examined by the centers to births.
Consolidated data on preimplantation diagnosis
The data contained in the agency's medical and scientific report covers all stages in the implementation of this technique, including :
- the number of applications examined, their acceptance rate, accepted and refused applications, and the reasons for refusal;
- indications for PGD in France, broken down according to the techniques used (molecular genetics, cytogenetics);
- results of PGD attempts, including embryo transfers and genetic diagnosis of embryos;
- the number of live-born children;
- geographical distribution of access to PGD, measured by region and relative to the population concerned.
Analysis of these data enables us to assess all stages of the procedure, from the handling of requests to the results obtained, including the techniques used and the births registered. The publication and analysis of these data is a tool for adapting practices and supporting professionals in this highly specialized activity.
