Organ and tissue procurement and transplantation
Published on 22 January 2025
Every year, the Agence de la biomédecine collects and analyzes consolidated data on organ and tissue procurement and transplantation in France. These data, published in the medical and scientific report, enable us to monitor changes in practices and guarantee transparency in these areas.
Consolidated data on organ and tissue procurement and transplantation
The agency's medical and scientific report provides detailed data on all stages of the organ procurement and transplantation process:
- organ and tissue retrieval: number of living and deceased donors, and volume of retrievals;
- transplants: number of transplants by type of organ (kidney, liver, heart, lungs, etc.) or tissue (cornea, skin, tendons, etc.), as well as donor and recipient characteristics;
- transplant results: success and survival rates;
- regional distribution: analysis of access to harvesting and transplantation by region, in relation to the population concerned;
- international comparisons: data enabling us to situate France in relation to practices observed in other countries.
Data collection and analysis enable us to assess the activity of healthcare establishments, and identify needs and areas for improvement in the field of organ procurement and transplantation. This work contributes to enhancing patient safety, harmonizing medical practices and guiding public policy in line with ethical requirements.
