Oocyte freezing: Agence de la biomédecine publishes the results of a national survey

Published on 16 March 2026

Five years after the 2021 Bioethics Act authorized the non-medical preservation of oocytes, the French Biomedicine Agency has released a national survey on the knowledge and perceptions of women aged 25 to 44 regarding this practice.

While 85% of the women surveyed reported having heard of egg freezing, only 28% feel sufficiently informed about the practical details. The survey highlights common misconceptions about success rates and underscores the critical role of healthcare professionals in informing women.

By the end of 2024, nearly 42,300 requests for initial consultations had been submitted since the program’s launch, and 11,595 women had undergone at least one egg freezing procedure.
