What are the different AMP techniques for people with a parental project?

Published on 13 January 2025

The assisted reproduction technique proposed by the medical team depends on the results of the tests carried out by the couple or the single woman.

  • Insemination, with or without the use of donor spermatozoa
  • in vitro fertilization (conventional or with microinjection of sperm - ICSI), with or without the use of donor sperm or oocytes
  • Embryo reception
  • Double gamete donation (the embryo is made from donor sperm and donor oocytes)

In vitro fertilization (IVF) pathways

IVF (with or without ICSI) using the couple's own sperm and oocytes

After the preliminary assessment phase, which lasts from 2 to 6 months depending on whether or not infertility is present, the therapeutic phase begins. This takes place in 5 or 6 stages:

  1. ovulation stimulation (by injections) lasts between 10 and 30 days
  2. oocyte retrieval takes around ten minutes, during a one-morning day hospital stay
  3. preparation of the gametes in the laboratory and fertilization take place on the same day as the puncture
  4. embryo development lasts from 2 to 6 days,
  5. embryo transfer (embryo(s) are placed in the uterus)
  6. and possibly embryo freezing, if more embryos have been obtained.

In the event of failure, the time between 2 attempts varies according to your medical file and the team's recommendations.

IVF with sperm donation

The preliminary assessment is carried out jointly with the center authorized to donate sperm. In order to carry out the attempt, close collaboration is required between the sperm donation center and the center that will perform the IVF, if this is not the same center. Overall, the attempt takes place in 5 or 6 stages:

  1. ovulation stimulation (by injections) lasts between 10 and 30 days
  2. puncture to retrieve the oocytes takes around ten minutes, during a one-morning inpatient stay
  3. preparation of the gametes (using donor sperm) in the laboratory and fertilization take place on the same day as the puncture
  4. embryonic development lasts 2 to 6 days,
  5. embryo transfer (embryo(s) are placed in the uterus)
  6. and possibly embryo freezing, if more embryos have been obtained.

IVF with oocyte donation

Pre-assessment and treatment are carried out by the team at the authorized oocyte donation center. The procedure is divided into 4 or 5 stages

  1. endometrial preparation (treatment with tablets or injections)
  2. fertilization of the donor's oocytes with the partner's spermatozoa
  3. Embryonic development lasts from 2 to 6 days,
  4. embryo transfer (embryo(s) are placed in the uterus)
  5. and possibly embryo freezing, if more embryos are obtained.
