The Agence de la biomédecine manages several tools essential to gamete donation and medically assisted procreation in France. These registers and applications, dedicated to healthcare professionals, guarantee the transparency and efficiency of these processes.

Gamete and embryo donor registry

This national register, managed by the Agency, centralizes information on sperm and egg donors, as well as couples who have donated their embryos. It enables a link to be established between a person born of a donation and his or her third-party donor. In accordance with the French Bioethics Act, any adult born of a donation may submit a request for access to the identity and non-identifying data of the third-party donor to the Commission d'accès des personnes nées d'une assistance médicale à la procréation aux données des tiers donneurs (CAPADD), a commission attached to the Ministry of Health. This register also ensures compliance with the law stipulating that the use of gametes from a single donor must not lead to the birth of more than ten children.

National registry for medically assisted reproduction

This register records the activities of medically assisted procreation centers authorized in France. It makes it possible to compare the activities and results of the centers, to analyze the activities of medically assisted procreation and to assess the possible consequences on the health of individuals, in particular children born of medically assisted procreation. The Gaia (Gestion et Analyses Informatisées de l'Assistance Médicale à la Procréation) application, developed by the agency, is used to analyze the information collected from the centers, in order to improve the quality and safety of care. This register helps to guarantee the transparency of this activity, and to produce essential epidemiological data for healthcare professionals and public authorities.
