Registers and business applications

The Agence de la biomédecine manages several tools that are essential to organ and tissue donation and transplantation in France. These registers and applications, dedicated to healthcare professionals, guarantee the transparency and efficiency of care paths linked to organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

Cristal: an application at the heart of organ harvesting and transplantation

Cristal is an IT platform developed by the Agency to manage and monitor organ procurement and transplantation in France. This information system brings together the clinical, biological and statistical data needed to allocate transplants to recipients. Cristal includes several applications, notably management of the national transplant waiting list, data on living and deceased donors, and information required for cross-donation of organs. This tool helps to ensure fairness and efficiency in the distribution of transplants in France.

The National Refusal Register

In accordance with the law, any person may oppose the removal of his or her organs and tissues after death, by registering during his or her lifetime on the National Register of Refusals, managed by the agency. Accessible at all times by authorized professionals, this register is a formal means of ensuring that everyone's wishes are respected. It is part of the presumed consent principle, according to which every citizen is a donor, unless opposition is declared. Citizens can register online or by post. They can modify or cancel their registration at any time.

GLAC: a registry dedicated to corneal transplants

The GLAC (Gestion de la liste d'attente cornées) registry is a national database specifically designed for patients waiting for a corneal transplant. This registry, managed by the agency, enables ophthalmology teams to register candidate patients and track their progress. By centralizing information, GLAC facilitates priority management and contributes to monitoring the national list of patients awaiting corneal transplants.
