European Committee on Organ Transplantation

The Agence de la biomédecine represents France on the Council of Europe's Committee on Organ Transplantation (CD-P-TO), a group of experts that works primarily on recommendations and technical documents for Council of Europe member states.

The European Committee on Organ Transplantation (CD-P-TO) is a steering committee of the Council of Europe, responsible for overseeing and coordinating work on organ, tissue and cell transplantation. Agence de la biomédecine participates in the CD-P-TO as part of its international cooperation missions, the objectives of which are to promote the principle of voluntary and free donation, to reinforce measures against organ, tissue and cell trafficking, and to develop high ethical, quality and safety standards in this field. Agence de la biomédecine's missions within the CD-P-TO are as follows:

  • Participate in bi-annual meetings to monitor ethical, quality and safety standards in Europe for the donation and transplantation of organs, tissues and cells of human origin.
  • Participate in the development of quality and safety standards, in particular by regularly reviewing and updating guidelines on the quality and safety of transplanted organs, as well as tissues and cells intended for medical use.
