What are the profiles of voluntary donors sought by the French registry?
Published on 7 November 2024
Today, the aim of the French registry is to recruit volunteers in a targeted way to increase the possibilities of transplantation, and thus to offer patients ever greater hope of a cure!
It is therefore essential to register as a priority :
-
Young people: transplants from young people are richer in hematopoietic stem cells. This is ideal, as it enables patients to receive transplants more quickly. What's more, donors are contacted a median of 8 years after registering: the earlier they register, the greater their chances of helping a patient.
-
Men: their bone marrow cells lack the antibodies that women develop with every pregnancy. The graft is therefore better immunologically tolerated by patients.
-
Diverse origin profiles: each patient has his or her own genetic profile, determined in part by their geographical origins. It is therefore essential to find this diversity of profiles among the donors on the registry to improve the chances of transplantation for each patient.
