What is the position of religious denominations on bone marrow donation?

Published on 7 November 2024

None of the great monotheistic religions has spoken out against bone marrow donation, because they believe that human life and the imperative need to save lives are paramount.

Bone marrow donation fits into this logic: when you donate a few cells from your bone marrow, it's to save the life of someone suffering from a serious illness, such as leukemia. What's more, bone marrow donation poses no risk to the donor's health, and the cells harvested regenerate rapidly.

So, whether you're a practising Christian or a simple believer, bone marrow donation doesn't conflict with the main principles of Christianity, Islam or Judaism: to give is to help your fellow man.
