Professor Michel Tsimaratos, 56, has just taken up the post of Deputy Director General in charge of medical and scientific policy at the Agence de la biomédecine. His expertise in the hospital sector, and the support he has given to research throughout his career, will enable him to head up this department, which covers all the Agence's medical fields of competence, i.e. organ, tissue and cell procurement and transplantation, procreation, embryology and human genetics. He succeeds Prof. Yves Pérel, who has held this position since April 2018.
Professor Michel Tsimaratos has been Professor of Nephrology since 2004 and of Pediatrics since 2012. His medical activity has focused primarily on chronic diseases in children. From 2013 to 2021, he was head of the multidisciplinary pediatrics department (gastroenterology, nephrology, endocrinology, nutrition, pediatric transplants) at Hôpital de la Timone in Marseille. Between 2011 and 2015, Pr. Tsimaratos was General Secretary of the AP-HM's Commission Médicale d'Etablissement, then President of the Société de Néphrologie Pédiatrique from 2017 to 2021.
Throughout his career, he has developed a specific interest and commitment to improving the quality of life and social and educational integration of children suffering from chronic illnesses. His work with associations, and in particular with the [HOPE]projet.fr fund, has helped to improve conditions for sick children in public hospitals. He has also led a reflection on hospital management, notably by publishing a book in 2019, "Repenser l'hôpital, rendez-vous manqués et raisons d'espérer", co-written with Bénédicte Devictor and Stéphanie Gentile.
