In general, a genetic test requires only a blood sample. The doctor who prescribes the test asks the patient to sign a consent form before the test is carried out. It may take several weeks, or even months - if the analysis is complex - to receive the results. If performed in hospital, genetic tests are generally not charged to the patient.
