The Agence de la biomédecine’s work relies on a cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary organization. With nearly 250 employees, its structure is designed to foster effective collaboration between its various areas of expertise.

Centralized management

The agency is managed by the Executive Management team, which comprises a Chief Executive Officer, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for medical and scientific policy, and a Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for resources. The Communications and Public Relations Department, which is responsible for promoting donations and recruiting donors, and the Inspection and Ethics Team, report directly to the Executive Management team.

A structured medical and scientific policy

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for medical and scientific policy is responsible for a number of specialist departments: the organ and tissue collection and transplantation department, the human reproduction, embryology and genetics department, and the hematopoietic stem cell collection and transplantation department.

Cross-functional centers of excellence

In addition to these three major departments, the agency is made up of a number of cross-functional divisions, also overseen by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for medical and scientific policy: the Research, Europe, International and Monitoring Division, the Data Division, the Training Division for Healthcare Professionals, the Healthcare Activities Organisation and Financing Division, the Renal Epidemiology and Information Network Division and the Safety and Quality Division. These areas of expertise enrich the overall approach of the Department of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for medical and scientific policy with diversified and complementary expertise.

Optimised resources

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for resources oversees a number of departments that ensure that the agency is operationally efficient and that are key to its work being successful: the Information Systems Department, the Administrative and Financial Department, the Legal Department and the Human Resources Department.

Multiple independent functions

The financial controller and the accounting officer work independently in order to ensure financial transparency and compliance with budgetary commitments. Their mission is to ensure that the agency’s expenses are monitored and controlled with rigor and integrity.
