REIN research tender
Published on 7 April 2025
The Agence de la biomédecine supports medical and scientific research into chronic kidney disease through its annual call for tenders. This scheme aims to encourage innovative and strategic projects, in line with its missions and public health priorities.
Promoting research into chronic kidney disease
Each year, the agency launches a call for proposals to provide financial support for research projects focusing on epidemiology, health economics and the evaluation of chronic kidney disease management. Applicants may request funding for :
- a research project using REIN network data:
- methodological support for the development of a research project using REIN data.
Projects must necessarily, but not exclusively, use data from the REIN registry. This initiative falls within the scope of the agency's missions, as defined by the French bioethics laws, and is made possible by a budget voted by its Board of Directors.
Entry requirements and project selection
To take part, applicants must submit a letter of intent setting out their objectives, the planned methodology and the partners involved. These letters of intent are examined by the REIN Scientific Advisory Board, which makes an initial selection. Selected projects are then assessed by two qualified external experts on criteria such as originality, relevance, feasibility and methodological quality. REIN's Scientific Advisory Board then interviews the project leaders, making recommendations and requesting adjustments where necessary. The Agence de la biomédecine sets the number of projects selected and determines funding levels on the basis of assessments by experts and the REIN Scientific Advisory Board.

For the 2025 edition, the letter of intent must be submitted by 5pm on October 28, 2024. If the letter of intent is accepted, the project leaders will be auditioned by the REIN Scientific Advisory Board on December 9, 2024. Following this hearing, a complete dossier must be submitted by 5pm on February 6, 2025, taking into account any comments made by the REIN Scientific Advisory Board.
Projects supported since 2008
Since 2008, the call for tenders has provided financial support for 77 projects, out of 105 complete projects submitted and 139 letters of intent. On average, the agency supports 4 projects per year, out of 6 complete projects submitted, for a total of €20,000 per project. This research contributes to improving knowledge of chronic kidney disease, prevention and patient care.
